u/Theodt I don't just want to re-tread the post of mine that /u/theredmokah already posted (thanks for the quote man.) It's not a question way too common asked, and I always like answering it. The brabo is very popular in both MMA and bjj/sub grappling. I can think of one anaconda in the UFC in the past couple of years, and besides Rafa Mendes, I can't think of a pure bjj/submission grappler that uses it often. Some people do prefer the 'conda, but by and large if you look, the brabo/darce is one of the more common chokes out there, and the anaconda is rarely seen that much. I still love it as a choke, but not as much as the brabo. With the anaconda, that's not really possible. With the side choke, arm-in ezekiel, nogi brabo (darce), gi brabo, you name it, you can get your shoulder behind theirs to drive in. Your figure-four/RNC grip is behind their shoulder, and the that grip is best used for holding the lock, not applying pressure. That's doable with the anaconda too, but the anaconda is one of, if not the only arm triangle, where it's hard to get the structure of your body behind their trapped shoulder. That's allowing your arms to relax, hold the position, and let your body structure do the choking. The major major reason I prefer the brabo is because your shoulder is behind their shoulder on the finish. And having long arms definitely helps both, but it more crucial for the anaconda. The front headlock and the inverted front headlock (like how Rafa Mendes rolls into it while passing). You only really need to shoot thumb/wrist deep on the brabo. Typically, the arm length required is not as long. There are a solid 5-7 common finishes from different angles (both knees, inside hip, outside hip, mount, guard, sprawling, or knee on belly).
#Bjj anaconda choke vs full
I've use setups from side control, knee on belly, leg weave, leg drag, half guard, the full mount, closed guard, butterfly guard, bottom half guard, bottom side control, the front headlock, the bottom of front headlock, the bottom of side ride, the omoplata, the triangle, you name it. There are simply setups for it everywhere. The darce/brabo is the kimura of the choke world. However, some people will prefer the anaconda, and I would never discourage anyone from experimenting with both and finding what you like. I am clearly biased, but I do believe the brabo/darce is "better" for a few reasons. Quoting /u/Darce_Knight from an INCREDIBLE post:
